Purpose of PolicyThe purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of employees working alone at PLAEX Building Systems Inc. manufacturing facility. Working alone presents unique risks, and it is essential to mitigate these risks through proactive measures and adherence to safety protocols.

1. Scope

a. This policy applies to all employees who may be required to work alone at any time during their duties atPLAEX Building Systems Inc. manufacturing facility

2. General Rules (allowable work)

a.Employees who are working alone at the PLAEX facility a re not permitted to run any production machinery. The only acceptable activities to machinery will be general maintenance and/or cleaning work that can be done safely.

b.The only time production equipment can be run is to inspect and verify that maintenance or cleaning activities have been completed(to ensure that the equipment or machinery is safe for the regular employee team to resume production.

c.The general rule for PLAEX employees who are working alone comes from the company’s Safety Manual(see below):

"To mitigate risk at any time there is only one person in the facility there is not to be any production run.The only acceptable activities will be some maintenance or cleaning work that can be done safely. The only production equipment that can be running is to inspect a piece of equipment to verify maintenance and or cleaning activities have been completed and the equipment is in a safe condition to resume production."

3.Responsibilities

a.Management

  1. Provide adequate training and resources to employees working alone
    .ii. Regularly review and update safety procedures in accordance with industry standards.
    iii. Conduct risk assessments to identify and address potential hazards associated with working alone.

b.Employees

i.Familiarize themselves with this policy and adhere to all safety procedures outlined herein.
ii.Report any safety concerns or incidents promptly to management.
iii.Participate in relevant safety training sessions provided by the company.

4.Risk Assessment

a.Before commencing work alone activities, employees and management must conduct a thorough risk assessment to identify potential hazards. This assessment should consider factors such as the nature of the work, the location, and any existing safety measures in place.

5. Communication

a.Employee’s who plan to work alone or are put into a situation where they must work alone, must first contact their immediate supervisor to inform them (before beginning to work alone).

b.Employees must confirm that they have a reliable means of communication before working alone. If their communication device is a cell phone, the employee must confirm that the cell phone works, and they must have a reliable charging device with them at the facility.

c. Employees planning to work alone must inform their immediate supervisor of the times and dates and must contact their immediate supervisor at the end of their work time.

d.In the event of an emergency, employees should know how to communicate for assistance quickly and effectively. This includes calling 911 and having their immediate supervisor(s) cell phone numbers.

6. Emergency Procedures

a.If an emergency does occur while the employee is working alone, the following steps should be followed:

  1. IF EMERGENCY INVOLVES A SERIOUS INJURY–The employee should immediately contact 911. After contacting 911, they should contact their immediate supervisor as well as the CEO of the company. If they cannot reach them by phone call, they should send messages through text or other appropriate messaging systems.

ii. IF EMERGENCY INVOLVES A NON-SERIOUS INJURY–The employee should contact their immediate supervisor. If they cannot reach them by phone call, they should send messages through text or other appropriate messaging systems.

iii. IF EMERGENCY IS NOT INJURY RELATED–The employee should contact their immediate supervisor. If they cannot reach them by phone call, they should send messages through text or other appropriate messaging systems.

7.Personal Safety Equipment

a.When working alone, employees must always have access to personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for their tasks. It is the employees responsibility to make sure PPE is available on-site. It is the employee’s responsibility to appropriately use the PPE while working alone.

b.Employees must use all personal protective equipment (PPE) when working alone.

8.The Right to Refuse Work

a.All employees have the right to refuse work that they believe could affect their health and safety.

9.Health and Wellness Checks

a.Since there are increased risks associated with working alone, employees should monitor their physical and mental well-being before working alone.

10.Training and Education

a.The employer will provide training to employees on the potential risks associated with working alone and how to mitigate them.

b.The employer will regularly review and update training materials to ensure that employees are equipped with the latest safety information.

11.Compliance and Review

a.Management will regularly review compliance with this policy and make any necessary adjustments to improve safety procedures.

b.Employees are expected to adhere to all aspects of this policy and report any safety concerns promptly.

12.Documentation

a.The employer will regularly maintain accurate records of risk assessments, safety training sessions, and any incidents or near misses involving employees working alone.

b.The employer will use these records to identify trends, assess the effectiveness of safety measures, and make informed decisions for continuous improvement.

13.Policy Review

a. This policy will be reviewed annually, or as needed, to ensure that it remains current and effective in mitigating risks associated with working alone.
